Happy Memorial Day Weekend,

Please take time from your plans this weekend, to take a moment to remember that this holiday is more than just a three-day weekend. It’s a time that has been set aside to remember those brave men and woman who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy the freedoms we have today. May we never forget – freedom is not free.

From Joe Dalton – Veteran’s Committee:

Memorial Day Flag Raising Ceremony. Monday May 27th @9:30am

Due to the forecast for showers and thunderstorms on Monday morning we will hold the Flag Raising indoors at the clubhouse.

This is one of the most significant flag raisings we celebrate here at Walnut Meadows, and we hope that all of you will join us.

Coffee and donuts will follow the ceremony.

Welcome to Summer Party – Saturday June 15th starting @ 3pm (rain or shine).

We will be set-up in the clubhouse. The pool will be open. There will be Live music, from 4-6pm, with the mellow sounds of James Lauchmen. James has performed in many local venues including Bishop’s Winery, (that’s where I met him). He is used to a lot of activity going on around him while he performs, so feel free to laugh, talk, visit other tables, sing along, and yes, use the dance floor. Check out Jame’s website @ jameslauchmen.com. Everyone is welcome. Please see the "Activities Page" for more information.

New Trip Offering – Penn’s Peak, September 26th

Join us for lunch at Penn’s Peak and an amazing show, “A Night Out with the Rat Pack.’ Journey back to the time when Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack, hung out and performed together.

This Tribute Trio are so close to the real deal, that if you close your eyes, you will swear that you have been transported to Los Vagas, when big bands, and the swinging 60’s! Please see the "Upcoming Trips Page" for more information.

  2. Barbara and I and Mike and Sharon Grimm just booked a cruise for May 31, 2024 – June 7, 2024, to the Bahamas with Perfect Day at CoCoCay. We will be sailing out of Port Liberty, NJ.  This cruise is going to Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida; Nassau, Bahamas; and CocoCay, Bahamas, (Royal Caribbean’s private island. The ship is Symphony of the Seas! This is a newer, amazing ship. I contacted Royal Caribbean this morning to attempt to set up a “Group Cruise”. They will not set up a “Group Cruise” unless we have 8 reservations already. There are no special discounts for a group on this cruise, (it’s almost sold out). I was able to set up our cruise today online, to take advantage of some Black Friday Deals. I booked our cruise using “Affirm”, (under their payment options) and will be making 6 interest free payments starting January 24th. I did not have to make any down payment today because I used “Affirm”! If you would like to join us, I suggest you go online and make your reservations as soon as possible, select the 5:30pm dining time, and let me know. I will link all of our reservations so that we are sitting together and will work on getting us transportation to and from the port. I will also have a meeting next week to talk about the cruise.

October 31, 2023

We need help! The Social Committee works very hard and puts in many hours planning, decorating, shopping, and preparing food for events at the clubhouse. To say it’s a little discouraging that so few people attended the last event would be an understatement. I am not sure if it was a one off, or a swing and miss on our part, so I am reaching out to you to try to find out. I have placed surveys in the library and I'm asking you to complete it and place them in the basket next to the desk. Your comments will be useful in planning future events.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Bob Veglucci

June 18, 2023

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there. I hope you are having a great day. Well, it has been a little rough start to Summer 2023, first with a small Covid Outbreak and then some squirrels decided that the wiring on our clubhouse Sprinkler System would make a good meal. I’m happy to report that the Covid Outbreak has abated and I’m glad to report that everyone who did have it have recovered. Two residents appear to have “Long Covid”. What is long covid? They are both negative and not contagious and have been cleared to be around other people, however they are still experiencing some of the effects of Covid, such as tiredness and cough. This should clear up in time. The report from the management is that estimates for the repairs on the Sprinkler System, a new Garage Doors, and the removal of the squirrels has been sent to the owners. We are all hoping all this work will be done quickly and efficiently. We are going to start opening things up, albeit a little slowly. Please see below for additional information.

  1. Shuffleboard – Chuck sent out and email on Thursday June 15th with the following information:

    1. Shuffleboard is restarting on June 19 with the scheduled games for the week ending June 24. Please note there are two matches scheduled for Friday! If there are conflicts, you can do makeup games.

    2. The following week ending July 1st, we will play the matches that were scheduled for the week ending June 10th.

    3. No matches will be played the week of July 2nd to 8th. You can use this time for any makeup games.

    4. The games scheduled for the week ending June 17 will now be played the week beginning July 10th.

    5. The Playoffs will be Monday July 17 at 10 & 11 and the championship match will be Wednesday July 19 at 10:00.

Any Questions? Call Chuck @ 570-582-5073.

  1. Bocce –

    1. We will restart oncoming Monday, June 19th with the games scheduled for the week ending June 23rd.

    2. The two weeks that were missed will be played at the end of the season. Example: On Monday June19th Teams 7 & 11 will play @5pm. Teams 6 & 12 will play @6pm.

    3. We will then follow the normal weekly schedules.

  1. 2nd & 4th Fridays at the Clubhouse – We will start again on Friday July 14th. This should allow the work to be completed on the Sprinkler System.

  1. Bowling – We will meet as scheduled on Thursday July 20th at Earl Bowl and go to Laura’s II afterwards. Laura’s II is BYOB if you feel so inclined.

  1. NEW! – NEW! – NEW! – “Celebrate America” Pool Party, July 8th @4pm. Please see the flyer on the "Upcoming Activities "Page for more information.

SPECIAL NOTE – the pool will be closed for general use @3pm for this event.

  1. Bus Trip – Right now we only have 17 people signed up for the Bus Trip to Dutch Apple Theater in Lancaster to see Guys & Dolls. We need 30 people minimum by July 23 or the trip will have to be cancelled. Please see the attached flyer for more information. Some people may not be familiar with this great Musical Comedy so here is a brief synopsis:

When Nathan Detroit needs money for a floating craps game,

he turns to high-rolling gambler Sky Masterson. Nathen bets

that Sky can’t get a date with a prim and proper missionary,

but he ends up falling in love! From the bright lights of Broad-

way to the dance clubs of Havana, Guys and Dolls rolls the dice

on love with the showtunes “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat,”

“I’ve Never Been in Love Before,” and “Luck Be a Lady.”

  1. Murder Mystery Update – we have booked the Theater Group for a matinee show for February 24, 2023. We thought this would be a good way to weather the winter doldrums. We are looking at catering and will be sending out more information as we get closer to the date.

  1. Keep an eye out for –

    1. Information on our upcoming bus trip to Penn’s Peak to see “Old Friends” – Simon & Garfunkel Tribute. Sign up will begin shortly.

    2. A Comedy Night in the clubhouse sometime in July.

June 5, 2023

Important Information

There was an incident at the clubhouse this morning that has necessitated its temporary closing. You may have heard the Fire Trucks and Police Cars.

  • An animal, probably a squirrel, chewed through the wires of the clubhouse’s Fire Monitoring and Fire Suppression System rendering it inoperable at this time.

  • Do to insurance requirements we are unable to occupy the clubhouse until it’s repaired.

  • A serviceman has already been out to the clubhouse and prepared a report to have a technician come and either repair or replace the wires.

  • We have no timeline right now for when this work will be completed.

  • The pool remains open; however, the bathrooms are not available for your use.

There is a stain of covid that is making its way through the community. We are asking the following:

  • Practice Social Distancing.

  • Wash your hands regularly and use hand sanitizer.

  • Try not to congregate in large groups for the next 10 days.

  • We are suspending the following Social & Board Activities, (we are not even sure if the clubhouse will be open and available):

    • The Association Meeting scheduled for June 5th has been cancelled.

    • The Water Aerobics scheduled for next week has been cancelled.

    • Canaster scheduled for June 7th has been cancelled.

    • The Friday Social Gathering scheduled for June 9th has been cancelled.

    • Bingo scheduled for June 13th has been cancelled.

    • We are asking any Activity Leader not listed above to reschedule any meetings or gatherings. We will re-evaluate on June 14th and hopefully this brief hiatus will stem the spread.

    • The pool will remain open during this time for the following reasons:

      • The chances of catching covid outdoors is much less and,

      •  Choline should kill the virus.

  • Some Covid reminders:

    • If your not feeling well, don’t share and wear a mask.

    • If you are not feeling well and/or running a fever test for Covid.

    • If you test positive, self-quarantine for 5 days and if you no longer have symptoms, you may go out, but wear a mask for the next 5 days.

Watch for future email and information.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Important Information for all residents:

Manufactured Home Community Act 805

There is a petition in the library to ask our State Legislators to support this Bill. The Bill is written, and we are looking for additional legislative sponsors who will vote the Bill out of committee and bring it to the floor for a vote. The main importance of this Bill is that it will give owners of Modular Homes the ability to fight exorbitant Land Rent increases through arbitration. It also ties Land Rent increases to the Cost of Living. Right now, we have no ability to dispute theses rent increases.

The petition is in the library, and I am asking that everyone stop by and sign it. If you have a neighbor who does not have email, please share this information with them. If you would like to sign, but can’t get down to the library, let me know and I will make arrangements to come to you.

Thank you Social Committee and those who helped with the meal prep and cooking.  The clubhouse looked amazing, the food was delicious and plentiful, and the DJ kept the place rocking and the dancefloor full.
