Swing! is a musical conceived by Paul Kelly with music by various artists. It celebrates the music of the Swing era of jazz (1930s–1946), including many well-known tunes by artists like Duke Ellington, William "Count" Basie, Benny Goodman and others. It received a nomination for the 2000 Tony Award for Best Musical and other Tony awards. Swing! combines high energy dancing, singing and acrobatics. The show recreates the swing style of jazz, which used large bands, fixed musical arrangements and solo-driven improvisations. Together with the development of the music, various forms of swing dancing emerged, varying by geographic regions, such as the Lindyhop or Jitterbug in Harlem or the Whip in Houston.

Exciting News!

Your Walnut Meadows Trips Committee is planning another community cruise! This time we are going to get away from the winter doldrums and head south for an 8-day cruise.

When: February 13, 2026 – February 21, 2026

Ship: Vision of the Seas

Port: Baltimore MD

Ports of Call: Charleston, South Carolina - Orlando (Port Canaveral), FL - Miami, FL & Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas

Cost: $1,393.86 solo cruiser, 1 person in the cabin.  $1,689.72 two people in a cabin. A deposit of $500 per cabin, will be due by November 18, 2024, and the balance by November 15, 2025. You will be able to make payments and the your payments will be refundable per Royal Caribbean Schedule. These prices are guaranteed through November 18, 2024, and subject to change after that.

Annual Holiday Bus Trip:

There is only 1 ticket left for our annual trip to “American Music Theater” with lunch at the “Fulton Steamboat”. Once this ticket is sold, we will start a wait-list. Reminder full payment is due November 1st and no refunds after November 2nd. We will help you try to sell your ticket if we can. See the flyer on the "Upcoming Trips Page" for more information.

Non-bus Bus Trip:

Last year we were able to bring in a professional theater group and do a murder mystery in the clubhouse. We had such a great time that we wanted to do it again. We contacted the theater group, and their rates went up $1,800! This increase put it out of possibility.

The Trips Committee has always wanted to do a bus trip to “Sight and Sound” but as many of you know the tickets to “Sight and Sound” are expensive, and we have not been able to get the trip down to a reasonable expense. Here is what we were thinking, if enough people are interested, we can bring “Sight and Sound” to the clubhouse. We can get a license that would allow us to show a movie of their performance. It will be projected on our giant screen (10 feet), we can get popcorn and maybe other food for purchase. The tickets would be $2-$3 each. You can bring your grandkids for a cheap movie day out. We will not move forward unless there is an interest in this event. If you are interested, please let us know by putting your name on the sign-up list in the library or emailing Bob @ rjvihs@comcast.net.  The movie will be either Noah or Jonah.

From your Social Committee: Lot’s of stuff in the works so watch for more information.

  1. We are putting the final touches on our annual “Holiday Gathering” @ the clubhouse. The date is Sunday December 1st @ 2pm. This is a free event open to Walnut Meadows Community Association Members only. It will be catered and is always a lot of fun.

  2. We are looking for a Santa and Mrs. Santa. If you would like to play the role, please call Bob 267-263-2494 & leave a message.

  3. We are planning another Music Bingo Night for January, and we are working on another “Comedy Club” @ the clubhouse.

Looking for your help – Pauline Braun and I are workshopping the possibility of a Art Auction @ the clubhouse to raise funds for the “Giving Tree”. If you have attended any of Paulins’s “Acrylic Classes” and would like to donate some of your paintings for the auction, please call Bob @ 267-263-2494 or Pauline @ 484-681-1505. Leave your name and the number of paintings you would be willing to donate. Bidding will start at $100,000 and go up in increments of $1,000. Okay stop laughing, bidding will open at $1 and go up in increments of $.50 and it should be a lot of fun.

September 28, 2024

Important: We are still having issues in the community with rodents, including squirrels, building nests and damaging the wiring of our vehicles. Just yesterday I notified a resident of a squirrel under their car and witnessed a squirrel feeding from a bird feeder. Please be a good neighbor and don’t feed the wildlife.

I spoke to a resident who had a suggestion to deter rodents and had done some research myself after my car was damaged. Rodents, including squirrels hate the smell of Peppermint. I purchased a Peppermint stick on from Amazon, (see below), or you can purchase pure Peppermint Oil and sprinkle it on an auto air freshener and hang it in the engine compartment of your vehicle.

Hope this information helps.

Bob V

Purchased from Amazon - HKZUAZA Mice Repellent for Car Engines, Mouse Repellent for Car, RV Mice Repellent, Under Hood Rat Deterrent, Keeping Rodents Out of House, Peppermint to Repel Mice and Rats, Engine Rodent Away-2P - $21.99

  2. Move More Physical Therapy of Harleysville will be here on October 1st @ 3pm to talk about balance and demonstrating exercises to prevent falling. Kay will provide light snacks after the session.

Trips:

  1. Annual Holiday Trip to American Music Theater with lunch at the Fulton Steamboat.

    1. There is only 1, (possibly 2), tickets remaining for this event! Once that ticket is gone, we will start a “Wait List”.

    2. I have contacted the vendor to see if we can get a bigger bus, (yes, I’m going back for a bigger bus -lol), and add additional seats. I am waiting for a response.

    3. Please see the "Upcoming Trips Page" for more information.

  2. I know that some of these trips are expensive. The trips Committee works very hard to find quality trips at a reasonable cost. We offer an option to make payments to try to include as many people as possible to join in. We encourage you to participate. We have a lot of fun.

  3. FYI – Your Trips Committee is already planning the 2025 Trips! If we don’t start early, we found that the venues are sold old. Two trips are already booked. One is pending and we are working on a fourth.

Social Activities:

  1. Make plans now to join us on October 19th for our Harvest Fest Theme Night Party. This is our equivalent to a Halloween Party. Keeping with the theme we are offering a simple menu which helps keep the cost way down. There will also be a DJ staring @6:30pm. So, wear a costume, (optional), wear your dancing shoes and get ready to have some fun with your friends and neighbors.

  2. This is an open event, so everyone is welcome, (non-residents included), so feel free to invite all your family and friends.

  3. Envelopes are available in the library to sign-up.

  1. Comedy Night in the clubhouse starring Jonny Carson.

  2. Music Bingo – this session will be One Hit Wonders & Sing-along Songs.

August 29, 2024

“End of Summer Party” – you have until September 1st to sign-up and join us for this fun event. Envelopes are available in the library. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

IMPORTANT – the Social Committee and I are trying to include live entertainment at some events. This was one of the top requests when we send out a survey. In an attempt to accommodate everyone, we are going to try to allow residents to attend for just the entertainment portion. We are asking for your cooperation. If you have opted for just the entertainment, we ask that you do not come to the clubhouse before 6:15pm. You are welcome to bring your own food and snacks after this time. This event is being catered and it doesn’t look good if we tell the vender we have 50 people and there are 60 or 70 there.  If we find that residents are showing up at 5 or with food and/or snacks we will not offer this option in the future. If you decide to change your mind and now want food also, use the envelopes in the library and pay the difference. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Annual Holiday Trip – We are down to single digits! We have only 9 spots left for this trip. Once we are full, we will start a wait-list. See the attached flyer for more information.

FYI – We have had another instance where rodents, including squirrels, have gotten under the hood of a vehicle and chewed the wires causing extensive and very costly damage. Please do whatever you can to prevent attracting these varmints. Make sure that garbage is secured, don’t feed the feral cats and Ground Hogs, don’t leave peanuts out for the squirrels, and sorry to say limit feeding the birds. All of these things attract rodents. Be a good neighbor.

September 24, 2024

Don’t forget - Friday September 27th is the 4th Friday of the month Social Night at the clubhouse starting @6:30pm.

BYOB and BYO-snacks. Bring cards and games to play and quarters for, “left-right-center”.

Personal note – I will no longer be attending every 2nd and 4th Friday Social Evenings. You don’t need me, there is nothing wrong other than I am involved in many things and would like to step back a little. The clubhouse is open, the Cornhole Game, and Pool Cue Sticks are in the closet, and I will leave dice for “Left-Right-Center” if I will not be there.

Did you miss the Iron Pigs Baseball Bus Trip? If you did you missed a great evening! At least two people said it was the best trip ever. We feasted on hamburgers, hotdogs, pulled pork, fried chicken, salads, fruit, fresh baked cookies and more. We had our own bar and hostess, and the service could not have been better. All the seats were under cover, so no one was in the sun. We had tables and chairs, plus stadium seats that were oversized and padded, with enough leg room to cross your legs. We saw a great Fireworks Show and even the Mascot came to visit us and take pictures. The bus dropped us off right at a “private gate” and we had to walk less than 100 feet to our elevator and then right done the hall to our “private picnic area.” Even the restrooms were right there! I hope if we run this trip again you will consider joining us.

“Love your neighbor as yourself.” Time after time this community proves that they truly live by this philosophy. You all proved this truth once again, when the amazing amount of $2,700 was donated for this year’s “Giving Tree”. You were a blessing! We truly live in a great, loving, and caring community. Thank you for being you.
